Welcome to the official eco-tourism site of the Peloponnese Region! You can browse through these pages to get to know the Region’s natural beauty, its archaeological wealth and its traditional character. The Centre for the support of Eco-tourism has been established under the European programme RIPE whose aim is to undertake innovative action for the development of the Peloponnese Region. Responsibility for the design, creation and implementation of the Eco-tourism initiative has been undertaken by the Laconia Chambers as this county has an abundance of natural beauty, cultural wealth as well as a large number of small tourist units and new tourist enterprises.
The basic aim of the Eco-tourism project is the promotion of new, soft forms of tourism such as eco-tourism, agro-tourism, marine and sports tourism, etc. The Centre for Eco-tourism aims to effectively promote the eco-tourist product in the domestic and international markets. For this purpose a package of eco-tourist products has been carefully designed to cater for the needs of the nature -loving citizen – tourist at a national and international level. The Centre is situated in Gythio, Laconia. Our main concern is to upgrade and enrich traditional tourism in the Peloponnese Region and to initiate new forms of eco-tourist dimension.
The important natural environment of the Peloponnese, its cultural and historical monuments and its traditions, constitute a considerable advantage for the development and sustainability of eco-tourism in the Region. The Centre aims to provide direct information and service to the citizen-tourist, especially in the area of provision of electronic information and the use of innovative operational applications for the autombatic search for the area, accommodation, natural resources and forms of recreation. The eco-tourism initiative’s target is to promote its product to the international markets, especially the tour operators.
